Settlement School Meeting Facilities

Hindman Settlement School makes its meeting and lodging facilities available to community organizations for meetings, conferences and retreats. We are not set up to provide lodging for individuals unless they are guests of Hindman Settlement School.

Fees are charged to recover our costs. Advance reservations are required. A brief description of our facilities and fees is included below. Please call 606.785.5475 to discuss your needs.

May Stone Building

The May Stone Building is the primary public meeting facility on campus. This building has a large porch with rocking chairs and benches for relaxation after meals or during breaks from meetings. Another smaller porch contains benches and chairs.

Great Hall: A large open room with potential seating space for up to 200 people in theater- style seating or up to 100 people at tables. It has a sound system and a small stage.

$150 per day or partial day

Sunroom: An enclosed sun porch with windows on three sides. Seating for up to 25 people at tables.

$50 per day or partial day

Dining Room: A large space with seating for up to 100 people at antique wooden tables and ladder-back chairs. Could also be used for meetings or break-out groups.

$150 per day or partial day

We ask that scheduled guests provide us, one week in advance of your arrival, with a written list of needs, such as: meals, refreshments, audio/visual equipment, microphones, table and/or chair set-ups. Furniture may not be moved without prior consent of the director. Included with this list should be your planned arrival and departure times. With prior arrangements and at an additional fee, traditional music by local and regional musicians may be arranged, based on availability. Fees for use of these facilities apply.

For use of any of these areas, groups will be required to pay for a Settlement School staff member to be present, with a minimum charge of $50 for 1 - 4 hours and $12.50/hour for each hour or part of an hour over four. Any additional staff members (e.g. extra cooks) required after hours or weekends will be an additional $12.50/hour.


Housing Accommodations

Hindman Settlement School does not furnish towels, washcloths or personal toiletries. All buildings are air-conditioned and SMOKE-FREE. No pets or alcohol.

Stucky Building: Cottage-style housing. Furnishings range from antiques to period style furniture. Has a large hall/foyer with seating and stone fireplace, plus a large front porch. Its nine rooms can house up to 20 people with multiple occupancy. Bathroom facilities are shared.

Single Occupancy: $30 per night
Double Occupancy: $40 per night
Triple Occupancy: $50 per night

Quiltmaker Inn: The Settlement School owns an older Inn located in downtown Hindman, within walking distance of the campus. There are 15 rooms, several of which require climbing stairs.

fees:
Private Bath: $50 per night
Shared Bath: $40 per night

Apartments: There are two apartments located on campus, each offering wonderful views, overlooking Troublesome Creek valley. All apartments have fully equipped kitchens.

First Apartment: A townhouse style apartment with three bedrooms upstairs and room for three people to sleep downstairs. There is a bathroom on each floor.

Single Occupancy: $25 per night
Double Occupancy: $35 per night
Three per room: $45 per night

Second Apartment: Townhouse style apartment with three bedrooms upstairs and sitting room downstairs with kitchen and one bathroom upstairs.

Single Occupancy: $30 per night
Double Occupancy: $40 per night
Three per room: $50 per night

Preece Building: Dormitory style housing with rooms and bunk beds. Each room will house four people, accommodating a total group of about 24 people. The two bathrooms are shared.

Kitchen Apartment: A furnished apartment with living room and kitchen. Two twin beds in living area and one twin bed in separate bedroom, with one bath.

Double Occupancy: $45 per night
Triple Occupancy: $55 per night

Dormitory: This area has five cubicles with bunk beds and a small private area, shared bath facilities and a large common space with desks and seating room. The dorm can accommodate approximately 20 people.

$25 per night, per person


Meals & Refreshments

With advanced planning, meals and/or refreshments can be furnished to visiting groups using our facilities for conferences and meetings.

Breakfast: $8.00 per person
Lunch: $8.00 per person
Supper: $12.00 per person (May be more depending on menu selection)

Refreshments (e.g. coffee, juice, tea, cookies, donuts) are furnished once per day for $2.00 per person and twice per day for $3.00 per person.
